Welcome to A Lively Mind! I’m so glad you stopped by for a visit.

My story

I’m Polly, a British 30-something who has ended up calling Atlanta, Georgia my home. Life has changed dramatically for me over the last decade… I moved country, moved city, married a wonderful American man and became a mom/mum!

Along the way, I’ve changed a lot too and learned so much. It’s not always easy trying to be a responsible grown up, especially in another country, and most days I feel as though I’m just muddling through! So I decided that blogging might be a good way to chronicle my everyday experience of life in America, through British eyes.

A Lively Mind is where I write about parenting, family life and my love of fashion. It’s also where I share my stories about the ups and downs of being an expat.

Why A Lively Mind?

The name of this blog was inspired by a quote from my absolute favorite novel, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. During a conversation between Lizzy Bennet and Mr. Darcy:

Now be sincere; did you admire me for my impertinence?

For the liveliness of your mind, I did.

The character of Lizzy – marked by her intelligence and independent thinking, but with a good dose of romance thrown in 🙂 – is one that I personally hold dear.

I tend to be a bit of an over-thinker… my mind is always busy with a million thoughts. You might say that I have a lively mind too. I started this blog as a creative outlet for some of those thoughts and have been writing ever since.
